LUXOLOGIST LURE:

Matterhorn FOCUS is a design hotel with arguably the best view of the Matterhorn as it is perched at the top of a rise in the closest point to Zermatt Valley. It is private, spacious and guests can enjoy unique design features from the local architect and designer Heinz Julen, whose creative flair has been recognized widely. This is a destination where guests immerse themselves in the highlights of Switzerland from the comfort of a standout design hotel.

GUEST EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS:

§ Unrivalled location: The Matterhorn is the most iconic sight in Switzerland and the suites at FOCUS overlook it with uninterrupted views from the bedrooms and lounges.

§ Service: Friendly, authentic and homely with great attention to detail. The owners, Christian and Patrizia, are very welcoming, as are the rest of the team.

§ Design features: The design touches are all individual and inspiring. From handmade chandeliers to custom seating, there is always a surprise around the corner. Guests can visit the Julen shop to acquire furniture and other products if they wish.

§ Spacious and Private: The suites are large and private with modern comforts, including Nespresso machines and widescreen TVs. The beds are exceptionally comfortable and boast a truly remarkable view leading out to a balcony and the Matterhorn.

§ Wellness: The spa is the best way to end the day. The outdoor pool and jacuzzi area have mountain views and the indoor facilities include an indoor pool, Caldarium, Finnish sauna and saline bath.

§ Breakfast: Although the hotel does not have a restaurant, guests will be spoilt for choice in the village with over a hundred restaurants. But to start the day, the FOCUS breakfast is delightful with quality sausages, eggs and bacon as well as croissants from the French region in Switzerland, bread from Fuchs (the best bakery in Zermatt) and a wide selection of Swiss specialties from meats and cheese to bircher muesli and yoghurts.

INSIDER TIPS:

§ Pop back in the afternoon to enjoy complimentary snacks at FOCUS overlooking the spa area.

§ In summer, guests can hire the hotel’s E-bikes and explore some of the best mountain biking trails in Switzerland overlooking the Matterhorn.

§ Hiking in summer is also a highlight and the five-lake walk is highly recommended. Visiting Z’matt should also be a must (a small little rustic settlement in Zermatt).

§ Winter offers extraordinary skiing with 360km of pistes. There is nothing quite like skiing beside the Matterhorn and the snow quality is typically exceptional.

§ Best times to visit: In winter, early January is the best time after the crowds have left and when the snow is usually very good (May is an alternative). In summer, September is a wonderful time to visit as it is a little quieter and the weather is usually fine.

§ Take a lunch at Findlerhof. While Chez Vroni is more well-known and is recommended for those wishing to celebrity spot, Findlerhof’s cuisine is, in our opinion, superior.
