LUXOLOGIST LURE:

Launched last year by renowned actor Til Schweiger, Barefoot Hotel is Germany’s ultimate beachside retreat. Only an hour drive from Hamburg, the hotel offers guests a unique sanctuary in a setting of understated luxury, natural and neutral textures and materials, and a backdrop of perfectly white sand dunes leading to the Baltic sea. This hotel is a rare jewel in this region – offering a brand new seaside experience for Germany in a way that combines sophistication with a carefree character, just like the name suggests. To view the hotel launch visit here.

GUEST EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS:

§ 57 rooms and suites with accommodation for dogs. The rooms are bright with light materials and textures, such as woods and white linen.

§ Welcoming restaurant that focuses on regional produce, including locally caught fish. Guest’s dogs are also catered for.

§ Wellness bathing area with yoga classes in a separate room. The spa menu ranges is also extensive with natural treatments, including a Baltic Sea scrub with a sea salt peeling.

§ Regular events, such as Pilates Weekends.

§ Seaside on the door step, which is itself a luxury in Germany.

INSIDER TIPS:

§ Barefoot Hotel is close to the town but still very quiet – you can have peace of mind from when you leave knowing that you will enjoy a tranquil holiday.

§ The hotel is ideal for couples or families. There were several families when we stayed (including their dogs).

§ The suites are like a home away from home – they’re both comfortable and spacious. Make sure to book one with a balcony or terrace to enjoy warm summer evenings.

§ Dining in the restaurant is highly recommended – the food is delicious, the ambience welcoming and modern and the service efficient and courteous. The focus on regional produce and quality is immediately apparent. As a starter, each table receives homemade baked bread with herb quark. We recommend the “Tinas Fior Di Latte” as a starter, which includes slices of orange, mozzarella, raspberry dressing, rocket, pine nuts and red onions (a recipe from Til’s long-term cook from Mallorca). We also recommend the fish dishes and Barefoot’s Trifle. Guests should also make sure to reserve a table for the evening as the venue is frequently booked out.

§ For guests without a car, the hotel offers the possibility to rent a BMW i3 (electric car) for free. For guests with a car, paid parking is available.

§ The hotel has its own bike rental, with e-bikes that allow you to drive down the whole coast (100km range). Make sure to take them for a ride!

§ Throughout the hotel there is fast WiFi with up to 50mb/s. The in-room TV also allows you to stream videos and movies from your phone.

§ If the weather lets you down, take a trip to the gym – it’s well-equipped and the spa area includes a sauna.

§ One major advantage of the hotel is that it a non-smoking venue, so you can make the most of the thalasso sea air experience.

§ Best times to visit: Summer (June – September).
